Connect your WhatsApp Business account to send messages
Create a Meta Developer Account
- • Go to developers.facebook.com
- • Sign up or log in with your Facebook account
- • Complete the developer registration if prompted
Create a WhatsApp Business App
- • Click "My Apps" in the top navigation
- • Click "Create App" and select "Other" as the use case
- • Select "Business" as the app type
- • Enter an app name and your email, then click "Create App"
- • In the app dashboard, find "WhatsApp" and click "Set Up"
Add & Verify Your Phone Number
- • Go to WhatsApp > API Setup in your app
- • Click "Add phone number" to add your business number
- • Verify ownership via SMS or voice call
- • Note: You can use the test number for development, but need a verified number for production
Phone Number Requirements
- • Numbers must be registered before sending/receiving Cloud API messages
- • Registered numbers work for calls/SMS but not WhatsApp Messenger
- • Numbers on WhatsApp Messenger must be deleted first before registering
- • Banned numbers require the appeal process before registration
- • Tip: Meta's Get Started guide auto-generates a test number for you
Get Your Phone Number ID & WABA ID
- • In WhatsApp > API Setup, find your Phone Number ID
- • This is a numeric ID (e.g.,
123456789012345) - • For WABA ID: Go to Meta Business Suite > WhatsApp Accounts
- • Click on your WhatsApp Business Account to see its ID in the URL or overview
- • Important: WABA ID is required to send template messages
Create a Permanent Access Token
- • Go to Meta Business Suite > System Users
- • Click "Add" to create a new System User
- • Set the role to "Admin"
- • Click "Add Assets" and assign your WhatsApp app with full control
- • Click "Generate new token"
- • Select your app and add these permissions:

whatsapp_business_management - • Set token expiration to "Never" for a permanent token
- • Copy and securely save the token (you won't see it again)
Configure Webhooks (For Message Status)
- • Go to WhatsApp > Configuration in your app
- • Click "Edit" next to Webhook
- • Enter Callback URL:

messagesandmessage_status - • This enables real-time delivery status updates
Link Your Account in EchoCue
- • Click "Link WhatsApp Account" above
- • Enter your WhatsApp Business phone number (with country code)
- • Enter your Phone Number ID from Step 4
- • Paste your Access Token from Step 5
- • Enter your WABA ID from Step 4 (required for templates)
- • Click "Link Account" - we'll verify the connection automatically
Important Notes
- • You need a verified Meta Business account to send messages to non-test numbers
- • Template messages require approval from Meta before they can be used
- • Without a WABA ID, you can only send free-form messages (not templates)
- • Keep your Access Token secure - treat it like a password
